About the Sportsman's Curry Club

The Dewi Morris Curry Club was first conceived in September 1996 after a very successful testimonial lunch to mark the end of Dewi's illustrious playing career.

400 guests were regaled with hilarious anecdotes from Rob Andrew, Mike Teague, Martin Bayfield and a host of other Rugby pals. The day was a great success not least because of the wonderful curry created by Martin Crank and his team of Indian chefs.

The first official curry lunch was hosted by Sky presenter Mark Robson and comedian Jimmy Bright at the ShereKhan in Rusholme and over a 100 people raised £800 for the Wooden Spoon, rugbys own charity.

Some 18 years and over 80 lunches later the Dewi Morris Curry Club has raised well in excess of £50,000 for various good causes. Sponsors over the years have included Nikal Investments, Allied London, Spinningfields, RBS Bank, Savills, DWF Solicitors, Berryman Lace Mawyer Solicitors and many more from the cream of the North West business community. Various venues have been used to host these lunches, and we have now settled at Spinningfields. Dewi retired as host in March of this year due to increased Sky TV commitments - the name may have changed but the fun and food with a few beers will continue to maintain the highest standards.

The lunches are now hosted by dual code rugby referee Karl Kirkpatrick, who brings a uniquely droll approach to the most well established event in Manchester.
